Our business

Our mission is to promote and advance science and technology through basic and applied research on material innovations, primarily associated with fine ceramics, in addition to supporting a wide range of manufacturing industries from the standpoint of technology applications, thereby strengthening Japan’s economy and improving daily life.

1.Research and Development

Since the establishment of our foundation 30 years ago, we have continued to add to our research and development capabilities as well as evaluation and testing technologies as an R&D and testing and evaluation institution whose scope of concern is materials, primarily fine ceramics. We intend to advance our capabilities and technologies to contribute to manufacturing and society through R&D and testing and the evaluation activities needed by society and commerce. In addition, we will maintain and develop our foundation technologies by undertaking research to foster advanced technologies and research commissioned by the government and other organizations.

2.Disseminating and Raising Awareness of Research and Technology

The JFCC disseminates information and seeks to promote awareness of current issues, research results, and technical information in a timely manner by publishing JFCC News and hosting symposiums, lectures, and seminars, and through press releases.

3.Technical Support Activities for Small and Medium Enterprises

To promote industries of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the JFCC undertakes joint research projects in response to requests and consultations received from individual SMEs, with support from universities and public testing facilities and institutions, and using funding supplied by the government's R&D promotion program to expand use of new technologies related to fine ceramics and other materials by SMEs and to advance manufacturing from the foundations.

4.International Exchange Programs

Through participation in academic conferences, lectures, and joint research, we seek to promote personal and technological exchange with universities, research institutions, and companies in other countries to keep in touch with international research trends and state-of-the art technologies, improve our technological capabilities, and publish research results that enhance our international visibility and presence as well as disseminate research results and seed technologies around the world.

5.Commissioned Projects with Private Sectors and Joint Development Projects

To respond to the diverse needs of private companies, we present effective solutions for individual issues employing the fundamental technologies accumulated over years of research activities, as well as advanced technology seeds developed through research to foster advanced technologies and research commissioned by the government and other organizations. We also promote the use of the Open Laboratory system, which supports research by allowing private businesses to dispatch researchers to the JFCC to use our facilities and equipment for their research.

6.Commissioned Testing and Evaluation Activities

The JFCC will contribute to R&D and manufacturing in industries by providing precise and reliable data in a timely manner in response to requests, based on JFCC’s technological capabilities.

7.Rental Activities for Our Facilities and Equipment

To promote efficiency in R&D and manufacturing in industry, the JFCC offers a service that allows use of our various facilities and equipment, including those for raw material preparation, molding, firing, powder characteristics evaluation, electromagnetic property evaluation, and microstructure analysis.

8.Advertising and Promotional Activities

We seek to disseminate, to the extent of our capabilities and in a timely manner, via our website and e-magazines, information on research results, technological seeds, and our facilities and equipment. In addition, we actively participate in exhibitions and provide tours and host technical exchange events to promote and advertise our activities.

9.Practical Reference Materials Distribution Activity

The JFCC contributes to the advancement of academia and industry by distributing practical reference materials intended for use as standards in material property evaluations and production management.

• Referthermo (practical thermal history sensors)
• Practical reference materials for complex dielectric constant measurements at microwave frequencies
• Practical reference materials for thermal diffusivity measurement

JFCC's Vision

The Japan Fine Ceramics Center aims to contribute to society through industrial applications of technologies, while continuing to pursue the truths that lie at the root of all science and striving to realize our dreams and aspirations.

In these activities for research and social contributions, we aim to continue challenging and exploring the endless possibilities by utilizing the combined power of the three pillars of our R&D-new materials generation and manufacturing technology, microstructure analysis technology, and computational science technology.
